Fishing question: Gar in the distribution network?

This may be a stupid question, but you can catch a Gar (fish) in a distribution network? I guess you just removed the holes in the network and there is a pain to repair. Am I wrong? I am using a hand net standard Walmart distribution. I am aware of regulations state, is simply to capture and release in this case.
