I do not pretend to give a "trick answer," but if the ice in the freezer is taste like other foods, somethings wrong with the other foods. Perhaps your freezer is not cold enough (at least 0 degrees F) or some food in the freezer are way past their prime and - apparently - inproperly sealed to begin with. Activated charcoal is good, but I'm old school and prefer old-fashioned baking Soda A & H. Both the refrigerator and freezer, and then 3 months, turned the kitchen drain to keep a fresh smell. Finally, the ice starts to taste "obsolete" in the best freezers. Use within a couple of days, or crack from the trays and bag it! Good luck!
